Malaysia Society For Harm Reduction (MSHR) cordially invites you to engage in enriching scientific discussion by participating in the 2nd Malaysian Harm Reduction Conference 2022 scheduled virtually for the 15th and 16th of October 2022. The 2nd MHRC 2022 is planned in accordance to the encouraging success of the Inaugural Harm Reduction Forum held on 16th October 2021.
MSHR is a ROS registered society and is the pioneer society in Malaysia to advocate the concept of harm reduction. Harm reduction is the practical approach strategy taken to minimise the adverse consequences of various human behaviours, both legal and illegal. It neither condones nor condemns any behavior and is often applied when total eradication or solution to a problem is not feasible or difficult to be achieved.
In line with the theme of Improving Communal Health Through Harm Reduction, The 2nd MHRC 2022 will discuss evidence based recent scientific advancements in the field of public health, diet and nutrition, substance addiction, occupational safety and health, ergonomics and road safety with emphasis in preventive measures and application of the concept of Harm Reduction. The 2nd MHRC 2022 is intended to serve as a stepping stone for discussions, design and coordination of more strategic and effective health programs for the community by encouraging healthy discussions among scholars, health practitioners, scientist, the government, policy makers and other stakeholders.
Main objectives of the 2nd MHRC 2022 are as stated below.
- Highlight recent scientific advancements in the field of Harm Reduction
- Discuss relevant national policies and examine the way forward for Malaysia from a Harm Reduction perspective
- Serve as a platform for exchange of knowledge between local and international stakeholders
- Commemorate scientific achievements in the field of Harm Reduction
The 2nd MHRC 2022 is an excellent opportunity for local and international experts, researchers, practitioners, professionals, and students to share their scientific research achievements and breakthrough findings. Participants are encouraged to demonstrate their eloquent scientific communications skills during the scientific paper presentations for accepted papers. The best presenters will be awarded based on their performance. Accepted submission will also published accordingly in the conference journal and conference proceeding book.
MSHR hopes the 2nd MHRC 2022 will be able to showcase, celebrate and honour the incredible achievements and contributions of Malaysian scholars, researchers and students to science, research and improving the wellbeing of the community.
PROGRAM
The Malaysian Harm Reduction Conference will be a two days virtual conference comprising of plenary sessions, panel discussions and scientific research presentations by local and international researchers.
Plenary program is scheduled for the first day of conference and will feature two prominent speakers addressing pressing national issues related to Harm Reduction.
The conference will feature two sessions each day; one in the morning and one in the afternoon featuring three panel speakers and an expert moderator. Presentations by the expert speakers will be followed by a discussion session which will be facilitated by the moderator. Participants are invited to share their opinions and clear their queries during the discussion session. The topics that will be discussed during the conference sessions are
- Nicotine and Smoking Addictions – Day 1
- Application of Harm Reduction in prevention of NCDs – Day 1
- Substance addiction and drug reform policies - Day 2
- Occupational Safety and Health, Ergonomics and Road Safety. – Day 2
The panel session will be followed by breakout sessions for accepted paper and abstract presentations. Each selected presenter will be allocated 15minutes to present their research findings in a manner deemed most appropriate and effective. Selected submissions will be notified by the 31 August to enable timely preparations. The best three presenters will be awarded for their excellent performance during the closing ceremony of the conference. Presentations will be judged on the research contents, originality and the ability to communicate findings effectively. Judging criteria will be provided to the presenters to facilitate their preparations.
PUBLICATIONS
Local and international researchers may submit their full papers for publications or their abstracts with preliminary results for the review and considerations of the conference scientific committee. Early bird registration charges applies to submission prior to 30th June 2022 and therefore researchers are urged to take the opportunity to submit their full papers or abstracts early. Deadline for submission for full papers and abstracts is on the 31st of July 2022. Submission that have been accepted will be notified by the 31st August 2022.
Accepted full papers will be published in the Special Conference Issue of the International Journal of Public Health Research which is a free, open access, peer-reviewed journal indexed by MyCite. The journal is published by the Department of Community Health, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia.
Accepted abstracts will be published in the The 2nd Malaysian harm reduction Conference 2022: Conference Proceedings Book.

Authors are invited to submit their full research papers or abstracts with preliminary results. Topics of interests for submission includes, but are not limited to:

Conference Registration Fees
Participants are advised to register early for the conference. Early bird charges applies to participants who register before the 20th June 2022. No added fees will be charged for paper submissions and presentations but please be reminded that all papers and subtracts submitted will only be reviewed once registration payment has been received.
