Under the umbrella of UNESCO, a Coordinating Comittee for International Voluntary Service (CCIVS) of which SCI was a founder member, was named in Paris in 1945. Through CCIVS, SCI first came to Malaysia when volunteers were placed in institutions for the handicapped in the late 60s.
