BORNEO HALF MARATHON 2027

Co-organised by Kinabalu Running Club (KRC) and Dewan Bandaraya Kota Kinabalu (DBKK)

(Formerly known as the Kota Kinabalu City Borneo Half Marathon (KKCBHM), it was first organised in February 2020, in conjunction with Kota Kinabalu City Month.)

WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW BEFORE YOU REGISTER

1. What is the Borneo Half Marathon (BHM)?
BHM is a 21km running course which has a scenic route that runs through the city and the coast. 

There are two categories, the 11km and 21km.

2. Are the Borneo Half Marathon and the Kota Kinabalu City Borneo Half Marathon the same?
YES, they are the same! There has only been a slight change in name. KRC launched its first Half Marathon, KKCBHM, in February 2020. The organiser has decided to shorten the event name so that it is not a mouthful to mention it, thus it is now known as the Borneo Half Marathon.

3. Who is the organiser of the Borneo Half Marathon (BHM)?
BHM is co-organised by Kota Kinabalu City Hall and Kinabalu Running Club, the annual Borneo Half Marathon is held in conjunction with the annual Kota Kinabalu City Day celebrations. KRC is a group of dedicated volunteers with a passion for running and a vision to see high calibre international marathons being organised in Sabah.

4. Is the organiser of the Borneo International Marathon (BIM), Kota Kinabalu City Borneo Half Marathon (KKCBHM), and Borneo Half Marathon (BHM) the same?
Yes, they are! All of these events are organised by the Kinabalu Running Club.

5. Where will the Borneo Half Marathon be held?
The BHM will be held at Padang Merdeka, Kota Kinabalu.

6. Is the Borneo Half Marathon route the same as the Borneo International Marathon’s 21km race route?
No, it is a totally different route so you can enjoy running two uniquely different half marathon races in one city.

Eligibility

Participation is open to individuals who meet the minimum age requirement for the respective race categories as stated. A participant's age category is determined based on his or her age on the date of the race, and all participants must meet the minimum age requirement for their chosen category. The Organiser reserves the right to verify eligibility and disqualify any Participant who fails to meet the requirements.

Registration

• All registration fees are strictly non-refundable, non-transferable, and non-deferrable, regardless of circumstances.
• Registration is valid only after a confirmation email has been issued upon successful payment. Participants are responsible for ensuring the accuracy of all registration and contact details provided.
• Registered Participants are not permitted to change their race category once registration has been confirmed.
• Bib numbers, timing chips, and other race credentials are strictly personal and must not be exchanged, transferred, or sold to any other person. Any violation will result in immediate disqualification.
• Completion of the registration entry form confirms the Participant's agreement to abide by these Rules and Regulations and the Privacy Policy.
• The Organiser shall not be held responsible for any failed, delayed, or unsuccessful transactions arising from technical issues, banking restrictions, or incorrect payment information.

Age Categories:

Half Marathon

• Open Category – all male and female participants must be a minimum of 16 years to 30 years as of 31 January 2027, i.e. born before 01 February 2011.
• Junior Veteran Category – all male and female participants must be a minimum of 31 years to 40 years as of 31 January 2027, i.e. born before 01 February 1996.
• Veteran Category – all male and female participants must be a minimum of 41 years to 50 years as of 31 January 2027, i.e. born before 01 February 1986.
• Senior Veteran Category  – all male and female participants must be a minimum of 51 years and above as of 31 January 2027, i.e. born before 01 February 1976.

10.5 KM Race

• Open Category – all male and female participants must be a minimum of 13 years to 30 years as of 31 January 2027, i.e. born before 01 February 2014.
• Junior Veteran Category – all male and female participants must be a minimum of 31 years to 40 years as of 31 January 2027, i.e. born before 01 February 1996.
• Veteran Category – all male and female participants must be a minimum of 41 years to 50 years as of 31 January 2027, i.e. born before 01 February 1986.
• Senior Veteran Category  – all male and female participants must be a minimum of 51 years and above as of 31 January 2027, i.e. born before 01 February 1976.

TIMING CHIP

• The electronic timing chip provided by the organiser must be used by all runners.

Prizes

• Only Top 5 winners who finish within the COT of each category are eligible to win. 
• Organisers reserve the right to amend prize money categories and amounts as deemed necessary.
• Prizes may be given by CASH OR VIA BANK TRANSFER.
  
• All winners are required to sign a declaration verifying the accuracy of their personal information prior to prize collection.
• Verification at the finish line is mandatory for all potential winners to claim any prizes.
  
• Failure to undergo verification at the finish line will result in disqualification from prizes.
• All prizes quoted in Malaysian Ringgit (RM).

RISK

• By entering this event, Participants acknowledge they are physically fit and able to compete in the event.
• By completing the registration form, Participants agree to these Terms & Conditions and indemnify the Organiser, sponsors, employees and associates involved in this event directly or indirectly against all liability for any and all injury, loss or damage connected with the Participant’s participation in the event.
• The Organiser reserves the right to change the date, time, venue, route, or other arrangements for Borneo Half Marathon 2027, or to postpone, suspend or cancel the event, where deemed necessary due to circumstances beyond the Organiser's control, including but not limited to weather conditions, safety concerns, government directives, public health concerns, force majeure events, or other unforeseen circumstances.

• In the event of any change, postponement or cancellation of Borneo Half Marathon 2027, the Organiser shall not be responsible or liable for any additional costs, losses, expenses, charges, fees or other financial commitments incurred by registered participants in connection with the event.

Race Categories & Start Times

All runners will get the followings:

• Event T-shirt for 10.5KM & Half Marathon
• Finisher’s medal for 10.5KM & Half Marathon (finish within cut off time)
• Finisher’s T-shirt for Half Marathon only (finish within cut off time)
• Finisher’s Certificate for 10.5KM & Half Marathon which can be obtained online (finish within cut off time)
• Goodie bag

Important information

• BHM 2027 will be enforcing the Cut Off Time (COT) for all categories. For the Half Marathon, it will be 3.5 hours and 10.5KM 2 hours. Runners who exceed the COT will be ‘swept’ back to the START/FINISH point.
• Race Bib swapping is illegal. This is especially important as emergency contacts are registered with the bib. This will also ensure that there is no cheating. If this should happen the runner will be immediately disqualified and the identity will be posted to all running events.
• For security reasons the Police, Dewan Bandaraya Enforcement Agency, Officials and Course Marshalls will not allow runners without a running bib. They will be stopped and taken off the course immediately for further action. Offenders will have their pictures taken and details shared to other race organisers.
• There will be NO medal replacement for lost/stolen medals after the event.
• There will be NO swapping of sizes (event tee, finisher tee) during Race Pack Collection, at the finishing line or after the event.

Add Ons

Race Pack Postage

• Postage is only available within Malaysia.
• Only one (1) Race Pack per add on.
• Race Pack is expected to arrive 5-7 days before Event day.
• Once payment is made, Race Pack Postage is non refundable.

Medal Engraving

• Medal engraving is an add-on service provided by Big Big Place (third party).
• Each medal engraving add-on is only valid for one (1) medal only.
• Confirmed purchase is strictly non-refundable, and non-deferrable, regardless of circumstances.
• If you Did Not Finish (DNF), the pre-purchase add-on can be transferred to your friend. Kindly inform the medal engraving crew and they will assist you. 
• Medal engraving service redemption is strictly limited to the event day (31 January 2027) and must be redeemed by 9:00am.
• Medal engraving service is available for walk-in purchase at RM20/unit.
• Please double check your details to be engraved before submission. A replacement medal will not be provided if incorrect details are engraved. 

Merchandise

• The merchandise T-shirt is NOT the event T-shirt.
• Purchase of merchandise is optional and not required to participate in the event.
• The merchandise T-shirt is a retail item and is NOT part of the official runners entitlements. Purchasing this merchandise does not affect race registration, race category, finisher benefits, or the official event T-shirt.
• Strictly NO changes in T-shirt size will be allowed.
• Purchased merchandise may be collected in person during the Race Pack Collection or delivered by post to a nominated mailing address within Malaysia for RM20.
• If postage is opted for the purchase of merchandise items, delivery will be arranged strictly AFTER the event day (31st of January 2027).
• QR code needs to be shown when collecting merchandise.
• Late collection of merchandise will NOT be entertained. Uncollected merchandise after 6pm on 30th of January 2027 will be deemed as unwanted and may be disposed accordingly.
• No refunds will be entertained once full payment is received.
• Actual colours may vary due to individual screen settings, lighting conditions and image editing.
