The Lion Origin is an annual stage drama performed by the UM Lion Dance Troupe. The event attracts 2,000 audiences annually.
The performance combines Lion Dance, 24 Festive Drums, Chinese Cultural Dance and live music by the UM Chinese Orchestra.

The theme for The Lion Origin 4 in 2019 is "Cheng Xu" (承旭). "Cheng" is to bear, to inherit or to undertake. "Xu" is the brilliance of the sun. By "Cheng Xu", we mean to inherit and develop the Lion Dance culture.

Ticket prices shown are in MYR (Malaysian Ringgit). 

  1. This performance art is a free seating hall. Come earlier at 7:30PM to get seat selection priority. 
  2. We welcome family with kids as long as other audiences are able to enjoy the show too. Admission is free for kids age 6 and below.
  3. A valid QR code ticket must be shown to the crew to redeem a physical ticket in order to get into the event venue. 
  4. The audience is not allowed to enter the hall without a physical ticket. 
  5. The organizer reserves the rights to make any adjustment to the events.
  6. Postponement, Cancellations and Refunds
  • The organizer does not allow any exchange or cancellation of tickets under any circumstances and tickets sold are neither transferable nor refundable unless otherwise permitted under paragraph below. 
  • If the event is postponed or cancelled, a notice will be posted on the event page and email to purchaser. The notice shall advise the procedures for requesting a refund and the period of time within which the purchaser could request a refund.
  • In the event of postponement, the ticket purchased for the original event date may be applicable and valid for the new event date unless otherwise notified.
  • The ticket is allowed to transfer to another person if the appointed person has the original QR code ticket by the original buyer.
  • Organizer reserves the right to postpone, cancel, interrupt or stop the event due to adverse weather, dangerous situations, or any other causes beyond its reasonable control.
  • Organizer reserves the rights to change or amend any terms and conditions at any time at its sole and absolute discretion without prior notice.

We are from University of Malaya Lion Dance Troupe, which comprises of graduates and undergraduate students. Established since 2007, we have been actively performing in KL and Selangor. Festive seasons especially Chinese New Year are the busiest time for us. The main objective of UM Lion Dance Troupe is to ensure the lineage of Chinese culture. Besides, our troupe discloses the basic knowledge about Lion Dance to the students in University of Malaya.
