Managing teams and developing strategy are some of the main tasks on any manager's plate, and critical thinking is a key component in both.
About this Event
Why Critical Thinking is vitally needed today?
We are being bombarded by information overload.
The world is getting more complex and unhinged.
Managers are scrambling to put out fires that never seem to end.
Leaders are discussing strategy and change, while companies are being disrupted.
People are getting disappointed with managers and leaders.
Managers and leaders are getting frustrated with people.
The world is spiraling into chaos. That's why we need Critical Thinking, ever more than before. Everyone needs to be able to think wisely.
Having an Opinion is not Critical Thinking
It used to be that we turn to leaders for direction. A leader, or manager, would say something wise and show the way forward. Their opinions mattered.
Today, everyone has an opinion, but that doesn't make you a leader. WORSE yet, some leaders give the wrong opinions (that advance their agenda) - leading many people into predicaments that are harmful to the masses.
So we have a divided empire. Some people support one leader, while others support another leader. All with passion and emotion, but without mature, thoughtful, critical thinking.

So What is Critical Thinking?
Critical thinking might be described as the ability to engage in reflective and independent thinking.
In essence, critical thinking requires you to use your ability to reason. It is about being an active learner rather than a passive recipient of information.
Critical thinkers rigorously question ideas and assumptions rather than accepting them at face value. They will always seek to determine whether the ideas, arguments and findings represent the entire picture and are open to finding that they do not.
Someone with critical thinking skills can:
- Understand the links between ideas.
- Determine the importance and relevance of arguments and ideas.
- Recognize, build and appraise arguments.
- Identify inconsistencies and errors in reasoning.
- Approach problems in a consistent and systematic way.
- Reflect on the justification of their own assumptions, beliefs and values.
