Have you ever felt Kriau (ke-ri-iau)? That’s right. Chaotic, noisy, total cacophony in your mind.
Sounds just like the real world, right? That’s why FriTillDea invites you to step into his world of KRIAU — an escapism from real life’s mad, hectic scenarios into a more colourful, surreal landscape yet still reflecting the chaos that’s happening in real life. An alternative reality.
KRIAU is not just a solo exhibition, it is a safe space that is filled with multitudes of illustrations that bombards your brain with colour, noise, movements and patterns that was manifested from FriTillDea’s creativity and journey as an artist.
“The word Kriau relates to me more because I’m from Gombak. There’s a certain notorious ghetto-life attitude that comes to mind when you say you’re from Gombak”, explains Black about why he wants to represents Gombak first; be it on local graffiti pieces or even artworks in galleries overseas.
Kriau features FriTillDea’s iconic signature style adorning walls as murals, skateboard obstacles fully doodled and spray painted by hand, a bizarre skating installation as well as projection mapping; the artist’s foray in digital illustration —while maintaining Gombak as his main subject matter.
“It’s what we (me, my friends, the whole scene) have always wanted in an art exhibition —it’s a safe space where we can have fun because it’s a skate park, you can think about the artworks displayed within a familiar area and take part in the artworks”
Why should you be at Kriau when the world is already full of noise and chaos? Well, FriTillDea’s world of cacophonous colours and characters is way better than what is offered in the real world.
