Charity Run – A twist towards green

As monsoon season is approaching, Malaysians are gathering effort to prepare against flood. The Department of Parasitology, Faculty of Medicine, Universiti Malaya has decided to kill two birds with one stone, by raising fund for our lecture hall renovation project and increasing awareness among the public members to prepare our environment for the monsoon season. One of the major causes of flood in Malaysia is the blockage of drainage system by garbage.

In conjunction with the nationwide effort to prepare against flood, we hope to conduct this charity run while recruiting more members to volunteer their effort in flood prevention, by collecting rubbish from the surrounding. In this interesting event, besides the classical approach of participation by completing the registered running distance, participants can consider a different approach: you can exchange mileage with the amount of collected garbage!

We hope that this multifaceted event can encourage the public to practice healthy lifestyle via frequent exercises and cherish our mother nature better.

Three ways to complete this virtual run event:

  1. Full running format
  2. Full garbage collecting format
  3. Mixed mode of running and garbage collecting

For 2 and 3, the garbage shall be collected using the small size garbage bag (W47 cm x L54 cm).

One full bag of garbage is equivalent to 1 km.

Participants are required to take photos of collected garbage as well as the location; and send us the proof at [email protected]. Kindly allow three working days for data processing.
