A concert with a different kind of classical music - an evening of song and dance music from Iberian and Latin America on flute, guitar, piano and voice. The program shall include selected works of iconic spanish and latin composers such as Isaac Albeniz, Manuel de Falla, and modern composers such as Heitor Villa-Lobos (Bachianas Brasileiras No. 5), Astor Piazzolla (Histoire du Tango), Mike Mower (Sonata Latino). Wine, beer, soft drinks and light refreshments will be available for sale before the concert and during the intermission.
The concert will take place from 5.30pm-7pm with an intermission, in the courtyard of Cheong Fatt Tze - The Blue Mansion

VerSeS Music Ensembles was formed in 2002. The Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia) based soloist ensemble is dedicated to performing and promoting a variety of solo classical vocal, choral and instrumental music, covering music from the Renaissance to modern day original compositions. VerSeS is active in non-profit education programs such as “The Singing Balcony”, lecture recital series (such as Renaissance & Baroque Gems, Art Song Artistry, Sounds of Iberia) and historically informed concert programs, often delivered in collaboration with tertiary education institutions, art galleries and independent venue hosts.
Scott Woo (Musical Director, Tenor)
Hailing from Sarawak, Scott has been an avid choral singer since young. He has taken on a variety of roles in the classical music landscape, including lay clerk, choirmaster, musical director, talent agent, tenor soloist and concert producer, both locally and abroad. Upon returning from Germany in 2017, Scott strives to promote different portfolios of classical vocal and choral repertoire to the Malaysian audiences, such as “The Singing Balcony” initiative. He is the director and vocal coach of VerSeS - the KL Madrigal Singers.
Sharlene Rani (Soprano)
Sharlene holds an ATCL Diploma in Singing Performance. She is classically trained as a soprano under the tutelage of renowned pedagogue, Baritone Cha Seng Tiang. She enjoys singing different music genres with friends and is a member of VerSeS - the KL Madrigal Singers, appearing frequently as soloists in the Singing Balcony initiatives, lecture recitals and most recently, held the title role of Dido in Henry Purcell’s Opera “DIdo & Aeneas” staged in June 2023 in Kuala Lumpur.
Foo Chie Haur (Flute)
Chie Haur is currently principal flute of the National Symphony Orchestra Malaysia. As a chamber musician as well as soloist, he has appeared in several musical events such as Steinway Historical Roadshow in Kuala Lumpur and Penang, Johor Bahru Arts Festival and Malaysian Youth Orchestra Foundation Music Festival. Besides, he has also performed in international festivals in Taiwan, Japan, Indonesia, as well as a chamber recital in Melbourne, Australia. His professional orchestral experiences also include Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra and Macao Orchestra. He was also an orchestral member of Canton International Summer Music Academy Guangzhou, China and Asian Youth Orchestra.
YS Tang (Classical Guitar)
YS Tang is a seasoned concert performer and classical guitarist from Malaysia. He has received scholarships from Del Mar College, Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi, and Texas Tech University School of Music, where he also worked as a teaching assistant. YS Tang holds a Master's degree in Music performance.
Aside from his teaching commitments, YS Tang maintains a busy performance schedule, both as a soloist and in chamber music, with a particular emphasis on early music. He conducts public seminars covering various aspects of classical guitar. Additionally, he collaborates closely with VerSeS - KL Madrigal Singers and actively engages in outreach programs, with the aim of promoting classical music to the wider public, particularly among younger audiences.
Iau Jo Yee (Piano)
Iau Jo Yee was awarded Bachelor of Music with First Class Honours from Birmingham Conservatoire in 2016. During her 3-year course in Birmingham Conservatoire, Jo Yee studied with Jan Loeffler and Philip Martin. She was active as an accompanist for both instrumentalists and vocalists, and has participated in various piano competitions and music festivals aside from her annual recitals. During her senior year, she had the opportunity to perform with the City of Birmingham Youth Symphony Orchestra, and has also won the Marjorie Hazlehurst Piano Award for her recording a full-length CD featuring works by Tatum, Schulhoff, Gershwin and Antheil.
Jo Yee is now teaching piano in MIA, ASWARA and Yamaha Sonata Music and Art. She is also frequently sought after as an accompanist for exams, recitals, competitions, gigs. She recently performed as a guest pianist in Heart 2 Heart Charity Gala Night organized by Malaysian celebrity Lee Sinje. Apart from performing, Jo Yee is also interested in music scoring and arrangement. She was one of the programme arrangers of Young Malaysians Go Classics II (2017), and the programme leader and one of the key performers of Yamaha Sonata Music and Artâ's first major public performance: Dear Parents Concert 2018. She was also one of the recipients of the Young Song Weavers Scholarship Program and performed in the Rossini's Heart and Soul (2018) as an accompanist and soloist. In March 2019, Jo Yee was invited to perform with bass trombone principal of SÃo Paulo State Symphony Orchestra (Brazil), Darrin Milling at the 'First Brass Weekend with Darrin Milling', hosted by The British International School in Kuala Lumpur.
