Common complaints about unscrupulous real estate practitioners will soon be a thing of the past. Building on the recent compulsory registration with the Board of Valuers, Appraisers and Estate Agents that accords each real estate negotiator a unique registration number, Hartamas Real Estate has teamed up with UCSI University to offer professional academic qualifications to raise the standard of service in the industry.
The real estate industry attracts many to its fold due to expectations of easy and quick monetary returns. Often times, the pursuit of money overrides the need for adequate training and equipping to navigate the complexities of the industry. This has resulted in negative encounters between the public and real estate practitioners, ranging from poor service to fraud and misrepresentation.
It is worth noting that there are only approximately 1,800 Registered Estate Agents in Malaysia to serve a population of close to 30 million. This ratio is extremely low when compared to other professionals such as Certified Financial Planners (2,527), Professional Engineers (10,990), Lawyers (16,049), Accountants (31,358), Doctors (40,000) and Insurance agents (80,000). There is clearly room to grow in the Malaysian real estate industry.
Looking to address these shortcomings, two established and award winning entities have joined forces to offer a solution – the Executive Diploma in Real Estate (EDRE). This unique collaboration between leaders in their respective fields of real estate and academia, combine almost 50 years of industry experience into a first-of-its-kind programme. Hartamas Real Estate and UCSI University have mapped out modules that will effectively equip successful participants with academic knowledge and impactful on-the-ground skills to excel in the Malaysian real estate industry. The EDRE is a full fledged academic qualification to be issued by UCSI University.
The EDRE is approved by the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA) and accredited by the Board of Valuers, Appraisers and Estate Agents (BOVAEA), translating into a full exemption from BOVAEA’s Estate Agents Written Examination Parts 1 & 2. This means that upon graduation with the EDRE, a candidate would be able to register as a Probationary Estate Agent and simultaneously register for the Test of Professional Competence (TPC). Upon passing the TPC, the candidate shall be eligible for registration as a registered estate agent.
Throughout the EDRE programme, participants stand to benefit from the ‘Industry Apprenticeship Programme (IAP)’ under successful estate agents from Hartamas Real Estate for first-hand experience and training. Thereafter, they may join the and the ‘Real Estate Entrepreneurship Programme (REEP)’, also under Hartamas Real Estate, to prime them for success in this industry, complete with reliable resources, administrative support, ongoing on-the-job and formal training as well as comprehensive network of contacts.
