Merapoh is a small town located in the district of Lipis, Pahang, known as the “Caving Paradise.” The area is home to approximately 200 caves rich in historical value and unique characteristics. In addition, Merapoh serves as one of the main gateways to Taman Negara Pahang – part of the largest national park in Malaysia, covering an area of 2,477 km². This national park is renowned as a premier eco-tourism destination, showcasing geological and biological wonders, particularly the tropical rainforest that is over 130 million years old.
The Merapoh Rainforest Trail (MRT) 2026 is now entering its 5th edition. Since its inception in 2022, this trail running event has received overwhelming response, attracting more than 1,800 participants each year from various countries. The event is not only a platform for sports tourism but also serves to introduce the natural beauty of Merapoh to the world.
The success of previous editions has proven Merapoh’s great potential as a tourist destination. This run not only contributes to the growth of local tourism but also stimulates the local economy. For this edition, the organisers are offering five race categories – 10km, 30km, 55km, 100km, and 100 miles – allowing participation from runners of all fitness levels. Participants will not only have the chance to test their stamina but also to enjoy running amid the beauty of unique flora, fauna, and geological formations.
The event is organised by the Persatuan Pencinta Alam Semulajadi Merapoh and Mt. Tahan Ventures, with the full support of the Lipis District Council, Pahang State Forestry Department, Lipis District Police Headquarters, Lipis Fire and Rescue Department, Lipis District Health Office, Lipis Wildlife Protection Department, as well as the Lipis District Youth and Sports Office.
Through this event, we aim to establish Merapoh as a premier eco-tourism destination while providing sustainable economic benefits to the local community.
