Runners Wild is a trail run that will take runners into some of the wildest destinations in the region. Runners Wild in Bario, Sarawak, Malaysia is a run for the experienced trail runner or experienced outdoor enthusiasts. Runners will find themselves flying into a tropical mountainous region where temperatures can soar into the high 30s in the mid day and drop to a low 18 degrees Celsius at nights. The 50 kilometer course will run through picturesque villages, pristine forests, rice fields and past many long houses of the Kelabit people who populate the highlands. Runners Wild seeks to bring the hardy adventurer into the unexplored while still providing the best running experience for each and every one of our runners. Yes, we mean YOU ! :)

Runners Wild's mantra is to to work with the community to create a long term viable event that will help to positively impact the community. Currently the event is being used promote tourism in Bario, train a local team on event and race organisation and also to work with the school in Bario on various programs which include a Junior Journalist program and a school athletics program. We have also created a new tourism website for the community , www.barioexperience.com, which we maintain for the community because of the low internet penetration in the Kelabit Highlands. All these programs will be handed over in stages to the community to manage over time with continued overseeing and input from our team in Kuala Lumpur.

BASIC INFORMATION FOR RUNNERS
The race is limited to 50 runners. This number excludes a limited number of places which we offer to local runners from the community and volunteers. Runners will have to contend with running through some primary and secondary forests where local wildlife is still active. Accommodation will be basic in comfortable home stays with no electricity. All homes currently run on generators. A solar program might possibly take effect in early 2016. Water sources are mainly from mountain streams or springs and rain water. Runners will be expected to buy the travel packages by the appointed tour operator of the community to ensure a smooth experience in Bario. For more information on Bario please do have a look at www.barioexperience.com. See you guys soon!
