ALLIANCE BANK BORNEO INTERNATIONAL MARATHON 2026

THE FIRST MARATHON IN SABAH WAS HELD IN 1984 AND IT WAS CALLED THE DAILY EXPRESS SABAH MARATHON.

The next marathon was held 23 years later in 2008 and it was called the Borneo International Marathon (BIM). BIM was organized by Championship Sport Events Sdn. Bhd., helmed by Mr. Andrew Voon as the Race Director as well as the person instrumental in organizing the Borneo International Marathon. The first BIM had a mere 529 runners.

In 2012, Kinabalu Running Club took over the organization of BIM from Championship Sport Events after the sudden passing of its founder. With a group of 10 volunteers, the event was able to continue and grow in popularity among local and international runners. In 2016, Borneo Marathon achieved its first milestone of 10,000 runners from over 50 countries.

Today, Borneo Marathon is a community-run event with over 1,000 volunteers. Since 2008, runners of Borneo Marathon have benefitted 25 charitable organizations and causes from around and outside of Sabah.

The course is certified by AIMS (Association of International Marathon and Distance Races) every year.

Runner's World Magazine listed Borneo Marathon in Sabah as one of the 50 best running races in the World in 2018. It is a destination race on Borneo island known for its wilderness and exotic culture. At this charity run, runners are treated with a scenic course overlooking the islands on the South China Sea and the sun rising behind Mount Kinabalu. You can choose your vacation time in Sabah pre or post-race. In 2026, it’s time to Run Wild in Borneo!

Registration

• All registration fees are strictly non-refundable, non-transferable, and non-deferrable, regardless of circumstances.
• Registration is valid only after full payment has been received and an official confirmation has been issued by the Organiser.
• Registered Participants are not permitted to change their race category once registration has been confirmed.
• Bib numbers, timing chips, and other race credentials are strictly personal and must not be exchanged, transferred, or sold to any other person. Any violation will result in immediate disqualification.
• Completion of the registration entry form confirms the Participant's agreement to abide by these Rules and Regulations and the Privacy Policy.
• 20% discount is only applicable for Alliance Bank Card Holders. Discount is not applicable for payment via Financial Process Exchange.

Full Marathon

• Open Category – all male and female participants must be a minimum of 18 years to 40 years as of 10 May 2026, i.e. born before 10 May 2008.

• Veteran Category – all male and female participants must be a minimum of 41 years to 50 years as of 10 May 2026, i.e. born before 10 May 1985.

• Senior Veteran Category – all male and female participants must be a minimum of 51 years as of 10 May 2026, i.e. born before 10 May 1975.

Half Marathon

• Open Category – all male and female participants must be a minimum of 16 years to 40 years as of 10 May 2026, i.e. born before 10 May 2010.

• Veteran Category – all male and female participants must be a minimum of 41 years and above as of 10 May 2026, i.e. born before 10 May 1985.

• Senior Veteran Category – all male and female participants must be a minimum of 51 years as of 10 May 2026, i.e. born before 10 May 1975.

10 KM Race

• Junior Category –  all male and female participants must be a minimum of 13 years to 19 years as of 10 May 2026, i.e. born before 10 May 2013.

• Open Category – all male and female participants must be a minimum of 20 years to 40 years as of 10 May 2026, i.e. born before 10 May 2006.

• Veteran Category – all male and female participants must be a minimum of 41 years and above as of 10 May 2026, i.e. born before 10 May 1985.

Timing Chips

• The electronic timing chip provided by the organiser must be used by all runners.

Prizes

• Organizers reserve the right to amend prize money categories, amount as deemed necessary
• Prizes may be given by CASH OR VIA BANK TRANSFER
  
• All prize money winners must have a personal bank account and must sign a declaration that their personal address and bank account information provided to the organizer is correct.
• All prizes quoted in Malaysian Ringgit (RM)

Refunds

• No refunds will be entertained once full payment is received.

• Confirmed registrations are not transferable to other persons.

• Registered runners are not allowed to change their categories once the registration is confirmed.

Age, Race Categories & Start Times

All runners will get the followings;

• Event T-shirt for 10 KM, Half Marathon & Full Marathon

• Finisher’s medal for 10 KM, Half Marathon & Full Marathon (finish within cut off time)

• Finisher’s T-shirt for Full Marathon only (finish within cut off time)

• Finisher’s Certificate for 10 KM, Half Marathon & Full Marathon which can be obtained online (finish within cut off time)

• Goodie bag

Important information

• BIM 2026 will be enforcing the Cut Off Time (COT) for all categories. For the Full Marathon, it will be 7 hours, Half Marathon 3.5 hours and 10km 2 hours. Runners who exceed the COT will be ‘swept’ back to the START/FINISH point.
• Runners who refuses to be swept back to the START/FINISH point will need to forfeit their running bib.
• Race Bib swapping is illegal. This is especially important as emergency contacts are registered with the bib. This will also ensure that there is no cheating. If this should happen the runner will be immediately disqualified and the identity will be posted to all running events.
• For security reasons the Police, Dewan Bandaraya Enforcement Agency, Officials and Course Marshalls will not allow runners without a running bib. They will be stopped and taken off the course immediately for further action. Offenders will have their pictures taken and details shared to other race organisers.
• There will be NO medal replacement for lost/stolen medals after the event.
• There will be NO swapping of sizes (event tee, finisher tee) during Race Pack Collection, at the finishing line or after the event.

Add Ons

Race Pack Postage

• Postage is only available within Malaysia
• Only one (1) Race Pack per add on
• Race Pack is expected to arrive 5-7 days before Event day

Transportation

• You MUST be at the location 5 minutes ahead of the scheduled time as stated
• The bus may be late due to numbers of runners for pick up
• QR code needs to be shown when boarding for transport
• No refund for cancellations

1. Borneo International Marathon (“the event”) is organised by Kinabalu Running Club.
