UMMC Paediatric Airway & Tracheostomy Fun Run

This Fun Run is a community awareness event dedicated to supporting children with airway differences, including those who require a tracheostomy tube, and their families.

Some children are born with or develop conditions that make it difficult for them to breathe normally because their airway is narrow or shaped differently. To help them breathe safely, some may need medical support such as a tracheostomy tube — a small breathing tube placed in the neck.
While some of these children have complex medical needs, many are active, bright, and full of potential. They can walk, run, play, learn, and enjoy daily life just like other children. Despite this, many still face challenges, including misunderstanding, social stigma, and difficulties being accepted into mainstream schools and community activities.

This event aims to raise awareness about this little heroes, promoting a more inclusive and supportive community and highlighting their strength, resilience, and potential.

The event features two fun run categories. Category A is open to all children aged 7 to 12 years old, covering a distance of 800 meters of UM Arena Stadium. Category B is specially dedicated to children with tracheostomy of all ages, with a shorter 400-meter route to ensure comfort and safety. For Category B, each child will be accompanied by one guardian throughout the run and usage of wheelchairs and strollers are allowed.

The event also features our mascot, “Sunny, the Brave Giraffe with a Tracheostomy Tube.” Participants are encouraged to wear giraffe-themed costumes to add fun, colour, and excitement to the event atmosphere.

Don’t rush off after the run! Stay and explore our booths from 8:00 AM to 12:00 noon—featuring tracheostomy care demos, free ENT screening, face painting, and fun activities for all ages. Stick around to see who will win the best giraffe costume and for a chance to win exciting grand prizes, including eWallets, vouchers, and day passes!

By registering for this event, participants (and parents/guardians, where applicable) agree to the following terms and conditions. If you are registering on behalf of a child, you are accepting these terms on their behalf.

           1.        Participation & Safety

Participation in this event involves physical activity such as walking or running, which carries some risk. While the organisers will take reasonable steps to ensure a safe environment, all participants take part at their own discretion. The organisers shall not be held liable for any injury, accident, or unforeseen event arising from participation. Parents/guardians are responsible for ensuring their child’s safety throughout the event.

           2.        Health & Fitness

Participants should be in suitable health and condition to take part. Parents/guardians are encouraged to ensure their child is fit to participate and to seek medical advice if unsure. Participants with known medical conditions, including children with tracheostomy, are encouraged to take appropriate precautions prior to participation. Parents/guardians are kindly requested to inform the organisers if their child has had any recent airway concerns or is feeling unwell, so that appropriate support and safety measures can be considered.

           3.        Supervision (Category B)

Children participating in Category B (tracheostomy group) must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at all times during the run. The accompanying adult is fully responsible for the child’s care and supervision. 

           4.        Medical Assistance

In the event of an emergency, the organiser may arrange for basic medical assistance. By participating, you consent to your child receiving such care if needed. Participants acknowledge that such assistance is limited to basic emergency support and does not replace ongoing medical supervision.

           5.        Personal Belongings

Participants are responsible for their own belongings. The organiser will not be liable for any loss or damage.

           6.        Photography & Media

By participating, you consent to the use of photographs or videos taken during the event for promotional and reporting purposes.

           7.        Event Changes or Cancellation

The organiser reserves the right to make changes to the event or cancel it if necessary (e.g. due to weather or safety concerns). In such cases, entry fees are non-refundable.

           8.        Registration Policy

All registration details must be accurate. Once registration and payment are completed, fees are non-refundable and non-transferable. The organiser may close registrations earlier than the stated deadline if the event reaches full capacity.

           9.        Compliance

Participants and guardians are expected to follow all event guidelines and instructions to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone. The organiser reserves the right to remove any participant who does not comply with safety instructions.

           10.     Parental/Guardian Consent

All participants under 12 years old must have consent from a parent or legal guardian, who will be responsible for them during the event.
