INTERNATIONAL SONGKET RUN 6.0

Run For Health, Wear The Heritage, Unite As One

The Management & Science University (MSU), through its Student & Career Development (SCD) unit, proudly presents the 6th edition of the International Songket Run (ISR 6.0), to be in conjunction with the ASEAN Songket Festival.

More than a running event, the International Songket Run is a unique celebration that brings together fitness, heritage, culture, family and community. Inspired by the beauty and cultural significance of songket, the event aims to promote greater appreciation of Malaysia’s traditional textile heritage while encouraging an active and healthy lifestyle among Malaysians and the international community.

With the patronage of Her Royal Highness, the Raja Permaisuri Selangor, the International Songket Run has established itself as a distinctive cultural-sporting event. The first editions attracted thousands of participants comprising students, staff, alumni, families, local communities and international participants. The event has also received recognition from the Malaysia Book of Records for achievements relating to songket-themed participation and running.

Celebrating Songket Through Every Stride

One of the unique features of ISR 6.0 is the encouragement for participants to wear songket-inspired attire while running. Participants may choose to wear a full songket outfit or incorporate selected traditional elements into their running attire, such as:

“Wear Songket Your Way!”

Participants are encouraged to wear full traditional Songket attire or simply incorporate a Songket element into their running outfit.

Men's Attire

  • Songket Baju Melayu – complete with songket samping and tanjak.
  • Songket Samping – can be worn with a regular Baju Melayu.
  • Songket Tanjak – traditional Malay headgear.
  • Baju Layang – traditional Malay attire that can incorporate songket fabric.
  • Baju Melayu Cekak Musang / Teluk Belanga – paired with a songket samping.

Women's Attire

  • Songket Baju Kurung – elegant and traditional.
  • Songket Baju Kebaya – a classic and sophisticated traditional outfit.
  • Songket Baju Kurung Kedah – a simpler traditional style.
  • Songket Kebaya Labuh – a graceful long kebaya style.
  • Modern Songket Baju Kurung – a contemporary interpretation of traditional attire.
  • Other traditional or contemporary songket-inspired clothing and accessories

This initiative transforms the running route into a vibrant showcase of Malaysian heritage, allowing participants to wear, experience and celebrate songket in a modern and meaningful way.

Bringing Families Together

ISR 6.0 is designed as an event for everyone from children and parents to young adults, senior family members, students and running enthusiasts. Families are encouraged to participate together, creating an opportunity for meaningful family bonding, healthy recreation and shared cultural experiences.

The event provides a platform for parents and children to run side by side, celebrate their heritage and create memorable moments together. Special recognition and activities may also be introduced to celebrate outstanding family participation, including categories such as “Most Outstanding Songket Family Runner.”

Uniting Malaysia and the World

The International Songket Run welcomes participants from various nationalities, cultures, ethnicities and backgrounds. By bringing people together through a shared appreciation of songket, the event reflects the spirit of Malaysia as a multicultural and united nation.

Participants from Malaysia and around the world will have the opportunity to experience Malaysian heritage in an engaging and inclusive environment. The event promotes the values of unity, friendship, diversity and cross-cultural understanding, demonstrating how culture and sport can bring people together beyond borders.

One race. Many cultures. One Malaysia.

Promoting Health, Heritage and Sustainable Development

ISR 6.0 supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly:

  • SDG 3 – Good Health and Well-being: Promoting physical activity, healthy lifestyles and community well-being.
  • SDG 11 – Sustainable Cities and Communities: Supporting the preservation, appreciation and promotion of cultural heritage.
  • SDG 17 – Partnerships for the Goals: Strengthening collaboration among government agencies, universities, communities, industry partners and international stakeholders.

Through this initiative, MSU aims to create an event that is not only physically engaging but also socially meaningful, culturally enriching and community driven.

A Celebration Beyond Running

The International Songket Run 6.0 represents a journey where every stride tells a story and every songket motif carries a legacy. It brings together sport, tradition, creativity, family and friendship in one memorable celebration.

Participants are invited to run in songket, celebrate Malaysian heritage, bring their families, meet people from around the world and become part of a movement that keeps our cultural legacy alive.

RUN FOR HEALTH.

WEAR THE HERITAGE.
CELEBRATE CULTURE.
UNITE AS ONE.
