Shakespeare and Jazz? If anyone can pull this combo off, it has to be the folks at WVC.

The WVC Malaysian Jazz Ensemble is riding high after their sold out Waiting For The Day concert last year which racked up ten BOH Cameronian Arts Awards nominations. With their fifth album, Do Not Gently fresh out of the oven, they are ready to wow their fans with yet another exciting treat.

This time round, they will be presenting their modern interpretation of Shakespeare. Besides original compositions specially baked for the show as well as improvisations, there will also be rearrangements of Duke Ellington’s Such Sweet Thunder Suite and more.

The four-strong band will feature Tay Cher Siang (piano), AJ Popshuvit (bass), KJ Wong (drummer), Julian Chan (saxophone) with special guests Audrey Then (baritone saxophone), Andy Chong (guitar) and Aaron Teoh (tenor). Lim Soon Heng will also guests as narrator!

In 1995, two individuals created history by building the first privately owned and operated theatre in Malaysia below Dataran Merdeka. The individuals were none other than Faridah Merican and Joe Hasham. The said theatre was the The Actors Studio@Plaza Putra. Then in 2003, flash floods inundated KL and destroyed The Actors Studio’s underground complex entirely. It was out of this tragedy that the The Kuala Lumpur Performing Arts Centre (klpac) was born.
