"Sit on me, move me, arrange me with others. Do what you like with me, just keep me in the George Town World Heritage Site."

Chairs is a social experiment that attempts to democratise the public space in George Town. A hundred free-standing chairs, painted and designed by members of the public, will be placed around the heritage site during the month of August. The public is then free to sit, move and rearrange the chairs with others to create a public realm of their own.

This project is organised by the Penang Institute and jointly supported by Narrow Marrow and Hin Bus Depot. By tracking the movements of the chairs, they hope to also provide a collective voice to influence future improvements in the city.
