“ Convergence of Souls “
Fergana Show 2016

Fergana Art is pleased to present the above named exhibition to the public.

It is an ensemble of artistic and creative output by “ A Society of Past and Present Malaysian Artists “.

It is an ensemble of art works dating as early as 1932 to the present. A total of seventeen ( 17 ) artists are represented in this exhibition.

While it is not wholly representative of the art practice nor the society of artists in Malaysia , this exhibition offers multiple entry points for the audience to appreciate the complexities and challenges in crafting individual visual vocabulary against the backdrop of building a young nation.

The fulcrum of this exhibition is Syed Ahmad Jamal’s , “ Sidang Roh ( Conference of the Souls ) 1970 “ , a painting inspired by a poem by Kassim Ahmad.

This show is curated by Zainol Abidin Shariff ( Zabas ) and is a journey of sorts ; from Abdullah Ariff impressionistic rendering of Penang in the 1930’s to Latiff Mohidin’s expressionistic Pago Pago , Wong Hoy Cheong’ gritty social realism and bookending with a new drawing study by Zulkifli Yusof of his yet to be completed Reformasi series.

Its a journey to be enjoyed.
