International Bharata Natyam soloist Mavin Khoo presents Intoxicating the Blue Lord, a work that delves into thetranscendental spirit of Krishna. Khoo delves into a journey whereby the female protagonist yearns to be united with the Universal Lover and in doing so experiences the many facets of shringara (love). The dancer revels in the experimental emotive states of the erotic, the maternal (Vatsalyam) and devotional (Bhakti) by exploring a range of popular works and narratives linked to Krishna's many manifestations. The choreography is structured within the framework of a single work that is built out of various fragments of the traditional Bharata Natyam repertory, a format that Khoo has been developing over the last few years.
Together with renowned vocalist OS Arun, both artists revel in the complexities of improvisational phrases further challenging the relationship between dancer and vocalist. This aspect of their performance is one that has become a signature Khoo/Arun trademark and is one that has been built out of years of collaboration. This performance is approximately 70-90 mins long.
