We are proud to present Amir Muhammad's The Big Durian (2003), the first Malaysian film selected for the Sundance Festival. The film is a mockumentary about an incident in 1987 which triggered the the start of the Internal Security Act clampdown, ‘Operation Lalang’. The Big Durian is a fiction/documentary hybrid in which 23 Malaysians (some real, some fictitious) talk about how the chain of events affected them … or not.
