Details

The first Formula 1 Grand Prix racing event was held in 1999 at Sepang International Circuit, where it is regarded as the home of F1 in Malaysia. During the era of Dr Mahathir Mohamad, he determined that Malaysia will become a fully industrialised nation under his plan of Wawasan 2020. By this, what he plan is through auto trade.

In the 1990s when the plan was unleash, the nation number one oil company, Petronas began to invest heavily in Formula One with Sauber and local car manufacturer, Proton bought over Lotus Engineering.

As a result, then prime minister, Dr Mahathir ordered to construct a ‘Grand Prix’ track. A track which will be the envy of the world in terms of technology and facilities. Hence, Sepang International Circuit was born in 1999. The drivers love it and, along with Malaysia's distinct atmosphere, it makes for an experience unique in Formula One.

F1 Grand Prix Malaysia is an event which would conduct annually across the globe, it’s more like a world tour for car racing. This event is opened to public where car racing enthusiasts might even get the chance of getting star struck by bumping into one of their favourite F1 racers, like Lewis Hamilton.
