Poets and poetry lovers, we welcome you to the twenty third session of our poetry and spoken word open mic at Gaslight Cafe & Music.

BANI HAYKAL experiments with text + music. Encompassing several disciplines including installation, poetry and performance, his interest lies at the intersection of political economy, music and speculative fiction. Working with a broad range of instruments, from acoustic to digital, traditional and hacked, his projects revolve around modes of interfacing and interaction. He is a member of b-quartet and Soundpainting ensemble Erik Satay & The Kampong Arkestra.

ILA is a visual + performance artist in practice and works primarily with overhead projectors and analogue elements to create organic narratives within performative structures her works are personal explorations based on mistranslations, miscommunications and the discovery of her awkward self-expressions. she weaves imagined narratives with existing realities, with light as her medium of choice, and invisible communities as her point of interest.

MARKIZA + PETER BROWN have been performing and recording for many years now in London and Malaysia. Between them they have released altogether. The couple’s earlier albums Open Secret (1993) and Love & Music (1996) have now been remastered and all the tracks are available as free downloads. The Soft Touch Full Album (2006) is also available, 8 albums in UK and Malaysia. Currently (2015) Peter has a new solo album out called “BLUES” on CD Baby. COVER CHARGE: RM18 (inclusive of one drink)
We would like to pay our featured acts and eventually afford to bring in other great poets of the world to our stage. Your donation will go a long way in helping the spoken word community do so. Gratitude to you.

1. Look for NEROTECA at Plaza Damansara. On the right side of the restaurant, you will see a stairwell, a Blue Light will be projected on the floor. Walk up the stairs, you will see Blue Elephant, keep walking upstairs, you will hear 60s music, you are close so keep walking up and you’ll see a huge banner saying GASLIGHT cafe. That would be the one.

2. Try WAZE or Google Maps to Gaslight Cafe.

3. If all else fails, call Meliza 0124298464
