Poets and poetry lovers, we welcome you to the twenty third session of our poetry and spoken word open mic at Gaslight Cafe & Music.

FEATURED ACTS: 

BANI HAYKAL experiments with text + music. Encompassing several disciplines including installation, poetry and performance, his interest lies at the intersection of political economy, music and speculative fiction. Working with a broad range of instruments, from acoustic to digital, traditional and hacked, his projects revolve around modes of interfacing and interaction. He is a member of b-quartet and Soundpainting ensemble Erik Satay & The Kampong Arkestra.

ILA is a visual + performance artist in practice and works primarily with overhead projectors and analogue elements to create organic narratives within performative structures her works are personal explorations based on mistranslations, miscommunications and the discovery of her awkward self-expressions. she weaves imagined narratives with existing realities, with light as her medium of choice, and invisible communities as her point of interest.


MARKIZA + PETER BROWN have been performing and recording for many years now in London and Malaysia. Between them they have released altogether. The couple’s earlier albums Open Secret (1993) and Love & Music (1996) have now been remastered and all the tracks are available as free downloads. The Soft Touch Full Album (2006) is also available, 8 albums in UK and Malaysia. Currently (2015) Peter has a new solo album out called “BLUES” on CD Baby. SWIT MARIE is a Jacqueline of all trades who thinks in rhyme all the time.

SAMUEL CALEB WEE (SG) thinks a lot about made-up stuff and sometimes gets paid for using big words

SHALINI VELAITHUM is a daring, young and passionate teacher on a mission to spread open expression among the iPad generation of today!

NATASHA ELEENA is a day dreamer who is trying to master the human body and her own mind.

ISAAC SE HOO is an engineering student who loves seeing people laugh and smile. 

MC STIFF is a speech consultant designed to find a contagious peace of mind in every spontaneous piece of rhyme

WAN REZAL ISMAIL is an aspiring poet with no idea on how to be a poet. 

ZAFIRAH AFFENDI is an economist who's trying to move away from being just a 140-character poet on Twitter. 

SHEAU YUN LIM is not a poet, but is trying.

MASUMI PARMAR writes honest poetry.

KIRTHANA KUHENDRAN says "I'm a student who writes poems instead of listening to boring lectures" 

NADHIRA AMALINA is a cry baby sometimes, batshit crazy most of the time. 

SITI NASYRAH depends on coffee and sad songs, and can stay up writing or wake up to write

VANEESHA KRISHNASAMY is a lover of words written & spoken, passionate about teaming them with visuals; aspiring photojournalist & documentarian.

ALLISON JONG is a 3rd year Literature in English student in University Malaya, who is not afraid to make you feel uncomfortable with her words. 

KEVIN LAU is a pseudo poet who writes, well, pseudo poetry.

1. Look for NEROTECA at Plaza Damansara. On the right side of the restaurant, you will see a stairwell, a Blue Light will be projected on the floor. Walk up the stairs, you will see Blue Elephant, keep walking upstairs, you will hear 60s music, you are close so keep walking up and you’ll see a huge banner saying GASLIGHT cafe. That would be the one. 

2. Try WAZE or Google Maps to Gaslight Cafe.

IF WALLS COULD TALK is the first and only bimonthly platform for poetry and spoken word in Kuala Lumpur. Bringing together poets of all strengths, the event serves as a sharing space for poetry of all languages, performance styles and mediums. The platform also creates spin off shows titled 'Poetically Correct' for seasoned poets to hone their skills further and a workshop titled 'Poets in Progress' for new talent to learn the craft.
