Oral Cancer Research & Coordinating Centre

The Oral Cancer Research & Coordinating Centre (OCRCC) was established to carry out and coordinate oral cancer research in Malaysia. Since its establishment, OCRCC has set-up a biobank known as the Malaysian Oral Cancer Database & Tissue Bank System (MOCDTBS) where data and biological specimens were collected, processed and stored. OCRCC operates with the vision of providing a framework for oral cancer research via the collection and sharing of data and specimen such that there is successful translation of basic research into clinical practice. Apart from research activities, OCRCC is also committed to increase knowledge and awareness on oral cancer by organizing various activities such as training sessions, seminars and awareness programmes. Major yearly activities conducted by the centre is a training workshop where oral health care specialists were trained to recognise a multitude of oral diseases so that they can echo-train other oral health care specialist and the ‘Mouth Cancer Awareness Week’ campaign where a walkathon is held to inaugurate the week and is followed by various activities such as exposure on mass media and mouth screening with the aim of increasing public awareness towards the disease.
