Originally known as Putra Stadium, Axiata Arena underwent a significant transformation to become the modern, multipurpose venue it is today. It gained prominence during the Kuala Lumpur '98 - XVI Commonwealth Games as the venue for gymnastic events. In 2017, it was rebranded as Axiata Arena, sponsored by Axiata Group Berhad. Since then, it has hosted a diverse range of events, including sports tournaments, concerts, expositions, gatherings, and conferences, solidifying its status as a premier destination for entertainment and community engagement in Kuala Lumpur.
Axiata Arena Design and Features
This indoor multipurpose venue caters to a myriad of functions, serving as both a sports center and a hub for concerts, expositions, gatherings, and conferences. Its capacity to accommodate nearly 16,000 spectators, facilitated by 13,000 permanent upholstered seats and 3,000 retractable seats, ensures that every event is a grand affair. Moreover, additional seating can be arranged, pushing the total capacity beyond 16,000, making it ideal for big concerts and large-scale entertainment events.
The design of the rectangular indoor arena is akin to a black box, allowing for events to be held regardless of the time of day, shielded from natural light. With dimensions measuring 69m x 35m, the arena provides a special vision experience for various events and performances.
